Why It’s Time for Health Care Rationing
In this book, I mix a touch of ethics together with a pinch of economics and two tablespoons of psychology to persuade people that controlling health care costs is a morally and economically vital mission. Published in 2000, the urgency of this topic has only grown in the meantime, as most developed countries struggle to figure out how to avoid being bankrupted by medical expenditures. Before we got caught up in silly debates about “death panels,” I was trying to take a serious (but entertaining!) look at the challenge of slowing the growth of health care without getting mired in moral conflict.
